Sullivan's Island Beach Real Estate, the quintessential beachfront Community

This is a family oriented, residential community. Rentals are not allowed and commercial endeavors are few. This island has a charmingly quaint flavor. Old beach houses have been extensively renovated, keeping their charm and character. Residents walk their dogs, ride their bikes, and sit on their wide porches, and time stands still. Real estate is expensive but readily available. Sullivan's Island would be a highly desirable place to live!

The beach at Sullivan's Island is gorgeous! It is very wide and the views are magnificent. There are almost always shrimp boats right off the coast, as well as the huge cargo vessels that come into Charleston Harbor, views of Ft. Sumter, the skyline of Charleston, with its many church steeples, and the Cooper River Bridges coming over to Mt. Pleasant. Homeowners have set aside a maritime forest that runs along the beach, southern end of the island, so that houses sit way back from the beach, and as you walk you see nothing but the natural beauty of the beach, the Atlantic ocean, and the maritime forest. At the nothern end of the island there are interesting sand bars where pelicans and terns congregate, and the spectacular view at "Breach Inlet", one of the most beautiful coastal scenes you will ever see.

Ft. Moultrie is officially a part of Ft. Sumter National Monument, featuring a visitor center giving the history of the fort. Ft. Moultrie sits on the southern end of Sullivan's Island, and looks out over Ft. Sumter, and the Atlantic ocean. Amazingly well preserved, battles against British warships took place here, Civil War conflicts, and World War battles also.Sullivan's Island is known to be the site of the largest sea battle of the Revolutionary War. An ocean view of Ft. Sumter can be seen,as well as Ft. Johnson on James Island. As you tour Sullivan's Island, you will see other signs of military activity. The library on Sullivan's Island is an old garrison named for Edgar Allan Poe, who is thought to have been stationed on the island at one time.
